Bessie Looney, 92

Bessie Lester Looney, 92 of Breaks, VA passed away Monday, March 02, 2026 at Pikeville Medical Center. Bessie was a homemaker and a member of the Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church since 1961. She was born August 25, 1933 in Big Rock, VA to the late Roland Lester and Florence Lester Lester. In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clarence Looney, brothers, Jack, Isaac, Dewey, Paul and Roland, Jr. Lester; sisters, Lily Stiltner, Rosie Lovell, Lola Harrell, Penny Honaker, Roberta Goff and Nancy Lester; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Slone Looney.

Bessie is survived by two sons, Erdil Jack (Delfina) Looney of Forest Hills, KY and Clarence Alan (Wendy) Looney of Breaks, VA; a daughter, Angela Compton of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren, Michelle (Nathan) Matney, Seth Looney, Cassie Compton & Kayla (Cameron) Fields; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Matney, Karly Matney, Gray Fields and Gemma Fields.

Visitation will be after 6PM Wednesday, March 04, 2026 at the Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church with a service at 7PM. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, March 05, 2026 at 2PM from the church with Old Regular Baptists ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
